We didn't want to spend our life savings on it. We wanted a brunch for a reception and cupcakes instead of cakes. We wanted good photos, but no video. A non-denominational ceremony. Oh, and we wanted to dispense with a lot of the more "traditional" activities in weddings, like the bouquet and garter toss, the First Dance etiquette, etc...

Also, we had our moments of panic in which we just wanted to run away with our parents (we always knew we wanted to include them in this) and have just them, us and a JP and have things over with.

Yeah. That didn't go so well with his mum. Or my folks.

Which, at the end of the day, was perfectly fine. Having a bit of a party to mark something so important to us, seemed appropriate after all.

And other than frowning at the idea of a six-person wedding, the parents were quite supportive and happy and non-meddlesome. So, if we wanted a small wedding, that was fine by them. No feathers would be ruffled. (Probably didn't hurt that none of our families live in our city... In fact, mine doesn't even live in this country...)

The next stage was to come up with our guest list and start figuring out our Save-the-Date pre-invites.

But, in the meantime, I had to deal with the realization (per my previous post) that, for all my talk about doing things my way and whatnot, I suddenly really, really, REALLY wanted a dress.

I didn't have a lot to spend on it. But I wanted one. It didn't have to be over-the-top in looks or price. But I WANTED ONE.

And so... Just as the holiday season approached, the First Challenge began...

The challenge...

What started as a "drinks after work" in December 2004 turned into a four-hour first date and a wonderful long-term relationship with a lovely, wonderful guy.

Seven years later (almost to the day), said wonderful guy put a beautiful (did I mention, BEAUTIFUL?) ring on my finger, we shared a fierce attack of the giggles, and I had the sudden realization that, after a lifetime of singlehood, I was going to get married.

And while I was shocked by the further realization that, yes, I wanted a party, and yes, I wanted a stupid, over-priced beautiful dress, I also knew I didn't want to wait another 7 years to officially start my life with Wonderful Guy. Wonderful Guy didn't want to wait long either.

Hence, the challenge:

We decided to plan a wedding in less six months (engagement date: Dec. 3, 2011; wedding date: May 27, 2012)

Now we're four months away and happy to say, the ducks are lining up nicely... And we're not even all that stressed... Well kinda.

This blog tells our story, as we enter the final straight...
